Milling a 16x surface

Part of the Month May 2016

Technology: precision milling
5-axis machining with maximum precision

Precision machining center:

Task:

  • Milling a 16x surface with different setting angles of the B-axis (B = 0 ° to 75 °)
  • Flatness of the total surface less than ± 2.5 microns
  • Milling of four pockets at a downwards tilted B-axis
  • Eccentricity tolerance of the pockets X, Y to the square center ± 2.5 microns
  • Maximum constancy demand for machine kinematics

Procedure:

  • Process optimization on a test part
  • Setting the warm-up times
  • Setting the kinematic point of the KERN Micro

Result:

  • Flatness repeatable less than 5 microns
  • Position: all Pocket centers within 0,3 microns
